Surgery acquires NFU building on Uppingham Business Park

Uppingham’s new medical centre is now one step closer after the Uppingham Surgery has acquired ‘Agriculture House’, the NFU building on Northgate, Uppingham Business Park.
The building will now be converted to provide a new prestigious surgery, built to the latest clinical standards and offering dramatically improved facilities for patients. The new surgery will contain additional consulting rooms to allow more services to be delivered locally and will provide much improved disabled access, patient rest room facilities and patient car parking.
The new site will also house a commercial pharmacy operated by Alfa Pharmacies, which currently operates Ashdales chemists in Uppingham town centre.
Dr Jenny Jones, Senior Partner at Uppingham Surgery, said, “We are absolutely delighted that we have secured this impressive facility which will provide 21st century medical facilities for our patients.”
Prior to deciding to move, the Surgery undertook a public consultation which showed overwhelming support for the move. Although there are concerns that the new location currently is not well served by public transport, the Surgery is working with local County and Town councils and its Patient Participation Group, to improve the bus service to the new location.
The detached 2 storey building extends to about 11,000 sq ft (1,025 sq m ) and is located on the northern edge of the town, next to the A47 trunk road. Uppingham Surgery will use the entire ground floor of the building for patient services, with the first floor providing administrative and staff support space. The NFU retains a smaller self contained regional office within part of the building.
Full planning permission has now been granted and the building contractor, Holland Build Ltd of Northampton, appointed. Neil Mason Associates has been appointed as project managers for the development. Works will start on site shortly with an anticipated completion date in early 2014.

Reid Commercial Property worked alongside the NFU in-house property team and the surgery was represented by Neil Mason Associates of Northampton.
Neil Mason Associates has also been appointed by the practice to sell the Surgery’s current premises which will shortly be put on the market. The existing surgery is located on a plot of approximately half an acre and has both residential and commercial development potential.
